Anastasia Potapova wins the final against Lucia Bronzetti and claims the Transylvania Open title!

Anastasia Potapova, the top seed at the Cluj tournament, defeats Lucia Bronzetti and wins the Transylvania Open 2025!

The final score was 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 for Anastasia Potapova, marking her third WTA title after her victories in Istanbul (2022) and Linz (2023). With this win, Potapova joins the increasingly prestigious list of Transylvania Open champions, following Anett Kontaveit, Anna Blinkova, Tamara Korpatsch, and Karolina Pliskova.

The Transylvania Open final featured the tournament’s top seed, who lived up to her status and navigated past opponents throughout the week, raising her level when needed, and another player who played her best tennis of the season. However, despite an impressive series of wins, Bronzetti faced an opponent who knew exactly how to counter her game in the final. With today’s victory, Potapova extends her dominance over the Italian, securing her fifth consecutive win in their head-to-head encounters.

The first set was a fierce battle. Both players fought hard, engaging in long rallies, most ending with winners. Bronzetti started confidently, looking to dictate play and take control of the exchanges, forcing Potapova to adapt her game. Under these circumstances, Potapova struggled to find comfort on the baseline, which allowed Bronzetti to come back from 2-4 to 4-4 and enter the zone. From that point on, she barely missed a shot, constructed her points patiently, controlled the game smartly with her forehand, and was always well-positioned to attack the right ball.

Unfortunately for Bronzetti, she couldn’t maintain the same level in the second set. This time, it was Anastasia Potapova who took the initiative and dominated with her powerful, relentless game. In this second set, Bronzetti was completely overwhelmed by her opponent.

Once Potapova found her rhythm and won the second set convincingly, nothing could destabilize her. The match’s dynamics shifted completely: from an evenly contested first set, where both finalists worked hard for every point, to a true display of strength from Potapova. Just like throughout the entire week, Potapova had moments of brilliance and elevated her game to a level no one else could match.

On her way to claiming her third career title, Potapova dropped only one set and defeated Julia Grabher, Viktorija Golubic, Ella Seidel, Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and finally, Lucia Bronzetti.

With this result, Potapova moves closer to breaking into the WTA Top 30, as she will rise to World No. 31 in the rankings on Monday.
