Karolína Plíšková, the number 1 seed of the tournament. Five Romanian players in the main draw.
The new edition of the Transylvania Open, the tournament in Cluj-Napoca voted the best in the world in the WTA 250 category for two consecutive years, is ready to begin! The competition will take place from February 3rd to 11th at BTarena and starts with two days of qualifiers. Karolína Plíšková (37 WTA), a former world number one in the WTA circuit, is the top seed of the tournament. She reached the top spot in the world rankings in 2017 and made it to two Grand Slam singles finals, at the US Open in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2021. Alongside her, other top players such as Tatjana Maria (42 WTA), a Wimbledon semifinalist in 2022, and Nadia Podoroska (63 WTA), a Roland-Garros semifinalist in 2020, will also come to Cluj. The last two winners of the Transylvania Open WTA 250 singles title, Tamara Korpatsch (81 WTA) and Anna Blinkova (46 WTA), are also present at this edition.
Five Romanian players are in the main draw of the Transylvania Open WTA 250: Ana Bogdan (66 WTA), Jaqueline Cristian (84 WTA), Andreea Mitu (WC – 171 WTA), Miriam Bulgaru (WC – 192 WTA), and Anca Todoni (WC – 235 WTA). Miriam Bulgaru entered the draw after the recent withdrawal from the competition due to an injury by Gabriela Ruse, the finalist of Transylvania Open 2023.
Patrick Ciorcilă, the director of Transylvania Open WTA 250: “We are ready to start, and we are extremely happy to open a new edition of Transylvania Open in Cluj. If last year the continuity of the tournament was uncertain, now we are glad that we have achieved so much: we have kept this tournament in Romania and returned less than four months after the last edition. This year, Transylvania Open has a much better place in the WTA calendar. Recently, Transylvania Open once again won the title of the best tournament in the world in the WTA 250 category, for the second consecutive year. We have a strong lineup with big names in world tennis. We have players from Romania, and undoubtedly, the audience will once again turn the arena into a space full of emotions. We have tennis, we have magic. All that’s left is to enjoy Transylvania Open.”
