Ana Bogdan, the 5th seed of the tournament in Cluj, secures a win against Victoriya Tomova (6-4, 6-1), clinching her sixth consecutive victory – following her recent title at Parma (WTA125K) a few weeks ago – and displays excellent form on the courts of the Transylvania Open.
In these last six matches, Ana has lost only one set.
Tomova, ranked 98th in the world, started the match strong, being aggressive and precise. The Bulgarian player managed to break and take a 2-0 lead, conceding only two points. However, the match took a different trajectory from this point onwards: Ana found her rhythm, began to feel the ball more and more, and hit confidently and without hesitation – especially on her backhand side.
The crowd favorite turned things around, leveled the score, and never looked back: she hit with confidence, dominated clearly in most of the exchanges, and had answers for everything Tomova attempted.
In a duel with a player like Tomova, who relies on strength, quick shots, and enjoys a fast-paced game, it was crucial for Ana to be the player with initiative, pressing, and attacking.
After a first set in which she raised her level at the right moment to make the difference – at 5-4, when Tomova served to stay in the set – Ana Bogdan continued undisturbed on her path to victory: she hit without hesitation, had no difficulty imposing her game, and managed to capitalize on her opponent’s moments of passivity by aggressively attacking Tomova’s neutral shots.
Ana Bogdan’s next opponent will be Nikola Bartunkova, a 17-year-old player from the Czech Republic, ranked 289th in the WTA, who caused an upset in the first round by eliminating Dayana Yastremska.
