A finalist at the previous edition of the Transylvania Open, Ana is one of the main hopes for Romanian supporters in Cluj. This win is even more significant as it marks her first victory at a WTA event in 2025.
To return to the quarterfinals in Cluj, Ana will have to get past Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the one who eliminated Irina Begu. Cocciaretto played a flawless match against Irina, particularly in the key moments. The Italian won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, but the scoreline doesn’t fully reflect the battle on the court – Begu had four set points in the second set, yet each time, Cocciaretto found a way to level the score and halt Irina’s momentum.
A day of long matches
Viktorija Golubic won the longest match of the season so far, a true marathon against the Dutch player Arantxa Rus. Golubic prevailed 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 after three hours and 32 minutes. The match had everything—quality, drama, and remarkable balance.
Golubic’s next opponent will be top seed Anastasia Potapova, who delivered an impressive performance in her 6-4, 6-0 win over Julia Grabher.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich, who entered the main draw as a lucky loser after Laura Siegemund’s withdrawal, also claimed a hard-fought victory. She defeated sixth seed Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in three sets, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4. Sasnovich, a former WTA Top 30 player, staged a comeback from 0-2 down in the deciding set and now prepares to face Marina Stakusic, who defeated Sorana Cîrstea.
