Anhelina Kalinina lives up to her status as top seed, advances into the quarterfinals

Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, who became the No. 1 seed at Transylvania Open after Barbora Krejcikova’s withdrawal, has lived up to this status and is now in the quarterfinals. Kalinina, World No. 45, ousted Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

The Ukrainian dominated the match from start to finish. She lost her serve only once and she managed to find appropriate solutions to all of her opponent’s attempts to destabilize her.

Kalinina thus reaches her fourth quarterfinal this season, after Charleston (WTA 500), Madrid (WTA 1000), and Eastbourne (WTA 500). Moreover, this is her second quarterfinal at Transylvania Open.

For a place in the semifinals, she will meet the winner between Russian Anna Blinkova and Chinese Xinyu Wang. On this side of the Main Draw, Kalinina and Potapova look very well so far. The two could meet in the semifinals.
