Romanian Irina Bara, World No. 150, fought hard in the second set of her first match at the Transylvania Open, but she eventually couldn’t hold on in front of the aggressive Nuria Parrizas-Diaz. It ended 6-1, 7-5 for the World No. 75.
Irina started badly in the match and lost the first five games, but she recovered in set two. This one was more balanced and more spectacular, with a lot of long rallies and strong defense from the part of the Romanian.
But the Spanish player managed to impose her offensive tennis in the key moments. At 4-4 she saved two break points and then she closed the match at the first opportunity.

Although Parrizas-Diaz became a professional player back in 2006, only this season she entered the big tennis stage. Her lifestory proves once more that one should never give up, no matter how bad things seem at a particular moment.
Her career was full of trials and tribulations for more than 15 years: she had no financial support, and moreover, in 2016, following a bad shoulder injury, was advised by doctors to renounce professional tennis.
Nuria didn’t listen to them. One year later she was back in the ITF circuit, where she played no less than 13 finals until 2019. She then made a step that would prove inspired: she moved to Valencia, joining a tennis academy that completely changed her career course.
In 2020 she entered for the first time the Main Draw of a Grand Slam, and this year she made her debut in the WTA circuit. So, after 15 years after her professional debut, Nuria managed to win two WTA 125K titles, reached round 3 in the Australian Open, and entered WTA Top 50.
She now gets one more win in a WTA tournament. For a place in the last eight at Transylvania Open, she will meet the winner between Bronzetti and Galfi.
