Anastasia Potapova is the first semifinalist at Transylvania Open

No. 4 seed Anastasia Potapova is the first player to reach the semifinals at TO 2022 after defeating Hungarian Anna Bondar in three sets. It ended 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 (in two hours and 28 minutes) for Potapova, who thus got her second victory this year over Bondar. Anastasia had won – in three intense sets – their previous match too, held in Australia, at Yarra Valley.

For the Russian player, this is the fifth WTA semifinal this year, after Istanbul, Prague, Hamburg, and Lausanne. Following this result, she will enter World Top 45 for the first time in her career.

The rematch with Anna Bondar was as intense as their meeting at Yara Valley, with Bondar finding, for long periods of time, all the answers to the Russian’s aggressive and composed game.

In the decider, however, Potapova played smart all the important points, saved the six break points her opponent had, and gave up only four points on her first serve.

In the semifinals, Potapova will meet the winner of the match Anna Blinkova – Anhelina Kalinina.
