After saving a match point in Thursday evening’s match against Jaqueline Cristian, Eva Lys continues her excellent week with a new victory, one that takes her to the first WTA 250 career semifinal. Lys prevailed in two short sets, 6-2 and 6-2, against Ekaterina Makarova, marking the most notable result of her career.
At 21 years old, Lys has delivered some remarkable performances in Cluj these days. First, she eliminated the top seed Sorana Cîrstea, then she saved that match point against Jaqueline Cristian, and now she advances to her first WTA semifinal after a convincing victory against Makarova, who had four consecutive wins at the time of the match, coming from the qualifiers.
Following this result, Lys is closing in on her first-ever entry into the Top 100 WTA.
As she has shown throughout the week, Lys had a clean performance against Ekaterina Makarova, not giving away any gifts and displaying a remarkable willingness to put in the effort.
Lys’s next opponent will be Tamara Korpatsch in an all-German showdown. The two have never met before.
