Miriam Bulgaru has already become a familiar presence for the Transylvania Open crowd. Awarded a wildcard for this year’s edition — the sixth in the history of the Cluj tournament — Miriam has also competed in the doubles draw alongside Mara Gae and is eagerly awaiting her first-round singles match on Monday, where she will face Olga Danilović in the second match on Center Court.

We asked Miriam how she sees this year’s edition of the Transylvania Open:
“It’s a very strong edition, I would say, just like the previous ones. Since the tournament moved to the beginning of the year, it has become even stronger. I was actually thinking, before the draw, who I would like to face in the first round. And there was no real choice — there’s no value gap between players. It’s a very strong tournament in terms of the field.”
Miriam also says that the Transylvania Open has built an excellent reputation worldwide:
“Any player, any coach, any physio knows that Cluj is great. I confirm this everywhere I go, and I’m always happy to hear that people love coming to Cluj. Naturally, everyone wants to come where things are good and beautiful. I know players who made real efforts, adjusting their schedules, just to be able to come here. Because it’s a lovely place and we are treated very well.”
“Honestly, I wish there were more tournaments like this. Apart from the Grand Slams, where you feel truly well taken care of — especially in Australia, which is at the top in that regard — at many other tournaments, especially on the women’s side, there’s still room for improvement. This tournament is extraordinary, and others should take it as an example.”
