Presentation / Irina Bara returns to Transylvania Open as the doubles trophy holder

How was 2022 for Irina

The season was full of premieres for the Romanian player: first presence on the Main Draw at the Australian Open, first win in Wimbledon’s Main Draw, and again first round in Roland Garros, coming from qualifiers. This year, her best result in the WTA circuit is a quarterfinal in Bogota.

Playing style

Irina Bara is one of the most methodical players in the circuit; she has a lot of patience, builds the points thoroughly, and is able to hold on in long, intense rallies. Her tennis is settled and rather defensive. To this solid baseline game she sometimes adds variation – slices, drop shots, and top-spin shots.

Big picture

Irina is returning to Cluj as the doubles trophy holder, together with Ekaterine Gorgodze. This a good chance for her to rebuild her ranking and to start the future season as close to Top 100 as possible; she is now World No. 149. A good result here would help her enter the Main Draw of bigger tournaments.

In the first round, she meets the Spanish Nuria Parrizas-Diaz.
