Simona Halep, Romania’s most beloved and accomplished tennis player, will play her first match at the Transylvania Open WTA 250 on Tuesday, February 4. The organizers scheduled her match on this day to allow fans to watch one of the most important figures in Romanian sports live. Simona Halep’s opponent will be determined during the draw, which will take place on February 1 at 2:00 PM, along with the complete schedule of first-round matches.

Simona Halep previously participated in the Transylvania Open in 2021, during the tournament’s inaugural edition, where she reached the final. However, the competition was held without spectators due to pandemic restrictions at the time. Thus, this year’s edition marks the first opportunity for fans to watch her play at home, in Cluj-Napoca, at Romania’s largest hard-court tournament, WTA 250.
Patrick Ciorcilă, Director of the Transylvania Open WTA 250: “Simona Halep is undoubtedly the most loved tennis player in Romania, and her presence on the court at the Transylvania Open is highly anticipated by fans. We decided to schedule her first match on Tuesday, February 4, to give everyone the chance to plan ahead and not miss the opportunity to see her play live here in Cluj-Napoca. This will be the first time Simona will perform in front of a home audience at the Transylvania Open, following the inaugural edition in 2021, which took place without spectators due to the pandemic. We want to create a special atmosphere, and this edition already promises to be unforgettable.”
Moreover, all six Romanian players in the main draw will compete during the opening days of the tournament, when the round of 16 matches will be held. In addition to Simona Halep, fans will have the chance to watch all six Romanian players in the main draw live during the first three days of the tournament (February 3-5). Alongside Simona, the BTarena courts will feature Sorana Cîrstea, Irina-Camelia Begu, Ana Bogdan, Elena-Gabriela Ruse, and Jaqueline Cristian.
Tennis fans can purchase tickets for the Transylvania Open online at entertix.ro. Starting this year, the organizers have introduced Half-Day tickets, valid for evening sessions from Monday to Thursday, starting at 5:00 PM. For the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals, only Full-Day tickets are available, with prices reaching 145 RON for the finals on February 9.
The fifth edition of Romania’s largest tennis tournament will take place in the BTarena in Cluj-Napoca from February 1-9, 2025. Matches will be played indoors on hard courts across two tennis courts. A total of 32 players will compete in singles matches and 16 teams in doubles for 250 WTA points and prizes totaling $275,094.
