Organizers absorb the VAT increase – ticket prices will not be raised
Transylvania Open WTA 250 returns in 2026 with an edition that brings major changes both in terms of sporting performance and the overall experience offered to players and fans. The Cluj tournament, voted twice as the world’s best WTA 250, is investing in new portable acrylic courts, a fully electronic Hawk-Eye Live officiating system installed on both courts, as well as electric mobility and upgraded accommodation facilities. Despite these investments and the increase in VAT in the events sector, the organizers have decided to keep ticket prices at the same level, allowing fans to enjoy a premium experience at accessible prices.

Patrick Ciorcilă, Tournament Director of the WTA 250 event:
“The 2026 edition takes the tournament to a new level. We wanted to invest in elements that genuinely improve the quality of play and player comfort, without putting additional pressure on the public. We are pleased to maintain the same affordable prices while offering a top-tier experience to everyone who comes to the Transylvania Open.”

Transylvania Open playing courts
The 2026 edition will benefit from a new portable acrylic court system, already used at some of the world’s most prestigious tournaments. The surface, which can be installed in a maximum of six hours, is designed to enhance player performance and on-court safety:
-
Predictable game rhythm: the uniform surface ensures a consistent bounce, encouraging tactical tennis and clean rallies.
-
Reduced physical impact: the court composition absorbs shock, protecting joints and allowing more intense training without additional risk.
-
Optimized grip: improved traction provides players with stability and confidence during rapid changes of direction.
-
Perfect uniformity: no uneven areas or unpredictable zones, offering equal conditions across the entire surface and reducing injury risk.

Hawk-Eye on both courts – fully electronic officiating at TO 2026
Transylvania Open WTA 250 takes a major step toward technological innovation by introducing the Hawk-Eye Live system on both courts at BT Arena, starting with the 2026 edition. Developed by the pioneers of tennis officiating technology, the system delivers 100% electronic, real-time decisions, with the chair umpire remaining the only on-court official. The technology uses 12 tracking cameras and specialized high-precision cameras, offering superior accuracy and a modern playing experience for both players and spectators. This marks the first time such a standard of excellence is implemented on both courts at an indoor hard-court tournament in Romania.

Sustainable transport: electric mobility
The tournament’s official mobility partner, Porsche, will provide a 100% electric fleet throughout the competition. The Taycan and Macan Electric models will handle the official transportation of players and officials, contributing to reduced CO₂ emissions and promoting modern e-mobility solutions.
Sustainability is a priority direction for Porsche; by 2030, Porsche customers will be able to choose between combustion engines, hybrid systems, and fully electric powertrains in every vehicle segment.
“2025 marked a technological milestone for Porsche: the legendary Cayenne, the SUV that exceeded all expectations and revolutionized the company’s sales since its launch, has received an electric version. Therefore, in a year when the Transylvania Open is reinventing itself, we are also bringing onto the court the SUV that is reinventing itself and marking the beginning of a new era for Porsche: the Cayenne Electric,” said Adrian Pascu, Executive Director of the Porsche importer. “We are therefore particularly pleased to support, for the sixth time as exclusive automotive partner, this tournament of the heart, which manages to innovate and impress tennis fans around the world with every new edition.”

Upgraded accommodation and premium facilities
Radisson Blu Hotel Cluj, the official partner, will welcome guests with a newly inaugurated wing that adds modern facilities and increased comfort. The Japanese restaurant Hikari has been fully renovated, now offering double the space and a dedicated area for private culinary experiences. New wellness spaces are expected in February 2026, including a fitness room overlooking Central Park, saunas, and a spa area—completing the experience offered to players.
Nina Moldovan, Administrator, Radisson Blu Hotel Cluj:
“We are part of the professional sports universe, and we take this responsibility seriously. For us, the partnership with the Transylvania Open means being a truly tennis-friendly hotel: offering players and guests impeccable conditions, impeccable services, and real comfort. The expansion of Hikari, the new facilities, and everything we are inaugurating in 2026 reflect our commitment to raising standards year after year.”

Record volunteer program and sustainable materials
The Transylvania Open community has set a record in volunteer engagement. In just four weeks after opening registrations, twice as many applicants signed up compared to the available spots (over 600 people for 300 positions), with more than 60% having participated in at least one previous edition.
In terms of sustainability, the tournament will use reusable materials and local solutions—from textile draping to catering provided by local producers. In this way, organizers reduce environmental impact while supporting the regional economy.
The 2026 tournament will take place between January 31 and February 9, at BT Arena in Cluj-Napoca. Tickets and season passes are available here.
