Xiyu Wang confirms her good form against Parrizas-Diaz, reaches semifinals at Transylvania Open

No. 7 seed Xiyu Wang has continued her impressive series in Cluj and is now in the semifinals, after 6-1, 7-6 with Nuria Parrizas-Diaz. The Chinese player thus adds to her record the second WTA semifinal of the season.

After Thursday’s grueling and dramatic match against Romanian Gabriela Ruse, Wang picked up things where she left off: she started the match strongly, winning point after point and making the difference with her great forehand.

In the second set, Wang came back from 2-5 down, leveled the score, and took the set into a tiebreak which she easily controlled.

“I tried to play as good as I could and to fight for every point. I still have a lot to improve, but I am very happy with this result. Qualifying for the semifinals is a good result, but I still have things to learn from such matches. Every match like this is a lesson for me. I feel like a student, I want to learn from my opponents”, Xiyu Wang said after the match.

For her first WTA final, Wang has to overcome Jasmine Paolini, whom she has never met before.
