WTA 250 Tournament of the Year: Transylvania Open

Indian Wells, Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari, David Witt are the other winners of the WTA Awards

Transylvania Open, the tournament from Cluj enters the world elite of sports with a well-deserved distinction: the best tournament in the 250 category. The tournament obtained this award thanks to the players who chose their favorite competition from the circuit by voting as the Cluj-Napoca experience was the best in the world.

Steve Simon, Chairman/ CEO WTA: Transylvania Open by Verdino has been recognized as one of the outstanding tournaments of the season and has been voted as the 2022 WTA 250 Tournament of the Year by the WTA player body. This is an incredible achievement and emphasizes the tremendous amount of hard work put in by you and your team and demonstrates the dedication provided to deliver a welcoming experience for the WTA athletes.”

The winners of the WTA Tour of the Year award, as voted by the players, received this recognition because of the excellence of their staff and organization, their passionate fans, and their wider commitment to the sport and its athletes.

The tournament awards are divided into three categories, reflecting the different levels of the WTA tournaments, with the winners being as follows:

  • WTA 1000: BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells)
  • WTA 500: Credit One Charleston Open
  • WTA 250: Transylvania Open (Cluj-Napoca)

  • Peachy Kellmeyer Player Service Award – Gabriela Dabrowski
  • Jerry Diamond ACES Award – Maria Sakkari
  • Coach of the Year – David Witt
