Emma Raducanu started her match against Kaja Juvan in a completely different way compared to her previous encounter, when she had come out firing. This time, the tournament’s top seed had a hesitant start, marked by several unforced errors.
Trailing 5–0, the first set seemed out of reach for Emma. But it only took a few well-constructed points for her to find her rhythm again, and the level she displayed in the following games was impressive.
With a run of 11 consecutive games won, Emma turned the match around to lead 7–5, 4–0 in the second set, which she closed just minutes later. It ended 7–5, 6–1 for the player warmly embraced by the Cluj crowd.
Beyond the victory, the overall impression Emma left was one of clarity. Even after the slow start, she didn’t rush. Instead, she chose to build points patiently, avoiding unnecessary risks. In the end, this win may offer Emma yet another sign that she is on the right path — one that can lead her back to her very best level.
Emma Raducanu will next play for a place in the Transylvania Open semifinals against Poland’s Maja Chwalińska, who came through qualifying.
