Shortly after her loss to Rebeka Masarova in the first round of the Transylvania Open, Gabriela Ruse met with the journalists present at BT Arena.
“First of all, I want to give credit to my opponent. She played outstanding tennis and served very well. Unfortunately, I don’t think I showed my best tennis. But it’s normal — I haven’t fully recovered after Australia, I played a lot of matches, and I still feel it a bit. I’m not upset, because I gave everything I could,” Gabi said.
“I’ll need to take a few moments for myself to think about what happened today and why I felt so tense. I started the match very tense; I had emotions. It’s always very hard for me to play in front of the home crowd, but it’s another step in my career and another experience added,” she continued.
She admitted she didn’t feel great clarity on court: “It was difficult to have it, considering that she (Masarova) was serving constantly at 180–185 km/h. She was simply better than me today, and I have to accept that.”
Gabi says she now hopes to go as far as possible in the doubles event, where she partners with Jaqueline Cristian:
“I really want to go as far as possible with Jaqueline. Of course, we want to win the tournament, but there are still many matches ahead, so we’re not thinking that far. We take it match by match. I think we are a very solid team — we played together a lot some time ago — and clearly this is an objective for me. I will stay here and play doubles 100%.”
“What I want to tell the public is that we also want to win every point, we also want to play our best tennis, but sometimes it’s simply not possible to do more,” Gabriela Ruse added.
