The sixth edition of the Transylvania Open kicked off with the singles main draw ceremony, attended by Simona Halep, Jaqueline Cristian, and Patrick Ciorcilă, the Tournament Director.
“It’s a tournament that becomes more beautiful year after year; there’s so much heart put into the Transylvania Open. Cluj is very close to my heart — I’ve always played well here, both in the Fed Cup and at this tournament,” said Simona Halep, who chose last year’s Cluj edition to announce her retirement from professional tennis.
“It’s a tournament that becomes more beautiful year after year; there’s so much heart put into the Transylvania Open. Cluj is very close to my heart — I’ve always played well here, both in the Fed Cup and at this tournament. I wish you all the best of luck. This tournament is something important for our country and for Romanian players. It’s a wonderful event, and I’m happy to be back in Cluj, even if this time in a different role, not as a player,” added Simona, the new Honorary Ambassador of the Transylvania Open.
Patrick Ciorcilă, Tournament Director, said: “For this sixth edition of the Transylvania Open, we are investing even more in the players’ experience. We want to promote Cluj — Romania deserves such an event, especially out of respect for the work of those who came before us: Ion Țiriac, Ilie Năstase, Virginia Ruzici, Simona Halep.”

“This year we have a very exciting draw, with two former champions — Karolína Plíšková and Anastasia Potapova, who returns to defend her title — and once again Emma Răducanu, who will certainly be embraced by the Cluj crowd. More than anything, we are happy that all the healthy Romanian players are here. We want to fulfill our dream of having a Romanian champion in Cluj. We hope this will be another unforgettable story, especially as it could be Sorana Cîrstea’s last tournament, and we wish her to go as far as possible in the competition,” Patrick Ciorcilă added.
Jaqueline Cristian, one of the crowd favorites in Cluj, said: “I came to the Transylvania Open 2026 with an open heart. You have an incredible tournament — everything is at the highest level! You take great care of the players, and that matters a lot. After the four Grand Slams, this is my favorite tournament. I really want to win in Cluj — it’s a magical event!”
