Transylvania Open 2025: List of Registered Players for the 5th Edition

Top 100 world-ranked players registered for the Transylvania Open WTA 250, which will take place from February 1 to 9, 2025, at the BT Arena in Cluj-Napoca! The country’s biggest women’s tennis tournament is set to host a highly competitive fifth edition. At the top of the list is Anastasia Potapova (WTA No. 35), a player with an impressive rise. Potapova achieved her best Grand Slam result by reaching the fourth round at Roland Garros. She also made it to the semifinals in Birmingham and Cleveland, marking a solid season. In 2023, Potapova claimed her second WTA title by winning the tournament in Linz, and her highest ranking was No. 21 in the world in June 2023.

For Romanian tennis fans, the presence of local players is key, including Simona Halep, the most beloved tennis player in Romania. Already on the main draw are two top Romanian players: Sorana Cîrstea (WTA No. 72) – the highest-ranked Romanian player, who might play her last tournament on home soil in Cluj, and Irina-Camelia Begu (WTA No. 83) – a constant presence on the WTA circuit and a highly experienced player.

Patrick Ciorcilă, Director of the Transylvania Open WTA 250:
We have 10 Romanian players registered for this edition, and most likely, we will see six of them in the main draw! Two are directly qualified, and Simona Halep, the most beloved figure in Romanian tennis and a dear friend of ours, will receive a wild card from us. We’re extremely excited to see her back on court. Simona was with us at the first edition, when she played the final in Cluj. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic rules, the public could not attend then. This year will be the first time we’ll enjoy her presence and game live, together. It’s shaping up to be a competitive and incredibly strong tournament, with players from the world’s top 90 in the main draw. Of course, last-minute changes could be out of our control, but we already see clear signs that this edition will be one of the strongest yet. We’re looking forward to seeing the fans in the stands and experiencing the special tennis atmosphere at BT Arena.

Among the 10 Romanian players registered for singles at the 2025 Transylvania Open are other established names at the tournament, such as Jaqueline Cristian, Gabriela Ruse, Miriam Bulgaru, and Ana Bogdan, the finalist from the previous edition. The main draw will include 4 wild cards and 2 for qualifying rounds, which will be granted to Romanian players who are registered but do not have direct entry to the main or qualifying draw.
